The National Capital Chapter of the American Concrete Institute hosted the annual Excellence in Concrete Awards on May10, 2011 at Maggiano’s Restaurant in Tyson’s Corner, Virginia. This highly anticipated event is one of the highlights of the local concrete industry. The awards are an opportunity to recognize designers, contractors and suppliers for their creative, innovative, aesthetic and imaginative use of concrete. As always, many truly outstanding projects were submitted for consideration to the panel of judges; Don Kline of Kline Engineered Concrete, Raphael Discipulo of the US Department of State and Clyde Ellis of VSL and awards were presented in the following five categories: Concrete Structures, Concrete Repair and Restorations, Concrete Buildings, Special Award, Judges Award. Following a generous dinner of family-style Italian food, the awards were presented to the deserving recipients by Clyde Ellis, 2011 Chapter President. An award was also presented to Charlie O’Reilly of Clark Concrete LLC in recognition of his outstanding service and dedication to the chapter while serving as the 2010 President.
