Abstract:

With winter almost upon us, it’s time to start thinking placing and curing concrete under cold weather conditions. This presentation will build on ACI 306R and is intended to provide attendees with a basic understanding of the operational changes necessary to continue to produce quality concrete when temperatures drop.

Topics to include:

  • Definition of cold weather when placing concrete
  • Reasons for the operational changes
  • Common lessons learned
  • Changes often required by code officials
  • Considerations to modify mix designs during the winter
  • Project specifications
  • Common cold weather concrete practices

His specialty areas of interest are primarily related to the construction materials testing required by the Special Inspection Program of the International Building Code. He is a registered professional engineer in eight states and the District of Columbia.
